Our Outdoor Learning

We are very proud of our outdoor learning environment. There are lots of opportunities for the children to be learning outside and developing thier appreciation for their local environment:

Out Forest School Area

Following successful grants from various charities and trustees, we used our knowledge of Forest Schools to create our own on site Forest Learning environment. Proudly,  we now have a decked outdoor classroom, fire pit, woodland,  bird watching area, digging pit and den building space which the children access on a weekly basis to enhance their learning within the curriculum.

Pond Dipping

As part of our outdoor area, we have also created an enclosed pond, which the children are able to use to help develop their scientific enquiry and lifecycle work. They have been investigating the living things found in the pond which ranged from popular tadpoles and diving beetles to pond snails and even a newt!

Growing Minds Allotment

Following our training with growing minds, the children have worked alongside our HLTA Mrs Cessford, Community Governor Mr Guy and Friends of Grange View to establish raised beds and a poly tunnel for growing our own vegetables for the school kitchen. We are enjoying being green fingered, and have extended our links to visiting and helping in the local Widdrington allotments during the summer months.

The Playground

The school council have been very keen to enhance our playground equipment and outdoor environment. After a number of successful grants, our outdoor play space has evolved into quiet roofed benches which provide the children with a calm seating and reflection area, as well as subsequent funding allowing new yard markings, signs, benches and an excellent trolley of equipment to be purchased. Now our play and lunch times are action packed, assisted by our playground buddies!
